Cavaliers trade Keith Bogans to Philadelphia 76ers for trade exception

Just days after completing a trade with the Boston Celtics that brought Keith Bogans to Cleveland, the Cavaliers have shipped Bogans out to the Philadelphia 76ers, including a 2018 second-round pick from the Cavs for taking on Bogans, whose $5.3 million salary this season and $5.5 million salary next season are fully unguaranteed. The Cavaliers will get a protected 2015 second-round draft pick in return and create a $5.3 million trade exception, which is the most important takeaway from this trade.

This trade helps ensure the Cavaliers stay away from the league's $78 million luxury-tax threshold for the 2014-15 season from acquiring Kevin Love and LeBron James earlier this year during free agency. The Cavs still have another valuable potential trade piece on their roster, with veteran center Brendan Haywood, whose $10.5 million salary in 2015-16 is fully unguaranteed as well.
